We invite submissions to a Research Topic of the Frontiers in Fuels on the topic “The Role of Plants and Microbes in Fuel Production”. Finding alternate, sustainable sources of energy is becoming more and more important as the world struggles to address issues like climate change and the depletion of fossil fuel reserves. Plants and microbes play crucial roles in the production of biofuels due to their unique abilities to convert sunlight and carbon dioxide into biomass through photosynthesis, and subsequently, to transform this biomass into various forms of fuel through biochemical processes. This field of study covers both the fundamental comprehension of the underlying biological systems and the real-world applications of using plants and microbes for the production of fuel.
The aim of this Research Topic is to highlight the recent advances in the field of bioenergy and biofuel production. This special issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the pivotal role that plants and microbes play in biomass-based fuel production. It will cover a wide range of topics including biofuels, biogas, and other renewable fuel sources derived from plants and microbial processes. In order to combat climate change, build a more sustainable society, and lessen our reliance on fossil fuels, bioenergy production is crucial. Focusing on the dissemination of research from fundamental science to the creation of novel procedures, technologies, and applications is important to overcome these problems.
We welcome Original Research, Review, Mini Review and Perspective articles. We would like to invite submissions for this Research Topic that discuss current research and concepts in the production of biofuels and bioenergy. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
• bioenergy; biofuel;
• biodiesel; bioethanol;
• renewable energy;
• green synthesis;
• lignocellulosic biomass;
• conversion of plant biomass;
• bio-refinery;
• saccharification of plant material;
• plant cell wall degrading enzymes;
• fermentation and saccharification of biomass.
Keywords:
Bioethanol, Fermentation, Enzymes, Saccharification, Sugars
Important Note:
All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
