About this Research Topic
Effective occupational health and safety management is an excellent industrial strategy to promote and ensure a safe and healthy work environment. In order to achieve sustainability in the agriculture, food, and fisheries sectors, global organizations are focusing and working on workplace safety to minimize harmful health impacts, economy, society, environment, company reputation, and desirable productivity. However, the implementation of these effective techniques in industrial sectors around the world is still limited due to the high cost associated with training equipment, personal protective equipment, expert trainers, and activities. Consequently, workers are exposed to threat and stress in their job sectors, which leads to an undesirable production rate. This indicates a negative correlation between worker performance and risk/stress in the workplace. Additionally, older employees require special attention compared to young workers from the occupational health and safety point of view.
Apart from these, it is necessary to identify knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP), human risk factors, and vulnerable workers, including migrants’ workers, immigrants, minorities, and people with disabilities, for effective safety, health, and risk management. Furthermore, agriculture and food industry workers are considered high-risk groups during the handling of equipment, chemicals, and cleaning of contaminated instruments because they are exposed to health hazards that require an effective training program along with personal protective equipment. Similarly, the fishing industry has been identified as an exceptionally precarious occupation compared to other industries due to its high rate of accidents and deaths.
Considering the large number of casualties among fishermen during fishing, occupational health and safety management have recently become a priority in the world. Therefore, the goal of this research topic is to present several examples of holistic approaches and strategies for implementing occupational health safety interventions in the agriculture, food, and fisheries industries. It is anticipated that this research topic provides the current status of workers occupational health management systems in the different industrial sectors worldwide and
recommends appropriate management techniques to improve the health safety of workers.
