About this Research Topic
We would like to invite contributions from computational science at extreme scales. Teams involved in doing such work tend to be multidisciplinary, however, most publication forums tend to prefer deep dives into specific disciplines. Therefore, we see publications that cover the work in a piecemeal fashion, but rarely see a holistic view of the high-level challenges that are very common in this kind of work. We would like the special issue to focus on these high-level challenges and innovations in the overall workflow that enabled the science goals to be met.
• Submission from projects involved in using complex computational workflows for scientific discovery at extreme scales. By workflow, we mean an end-to-end computation pipeline involving several stages, even if some of the stages are managed separately.
• We would like to hear about innovations at the level of interoperability among components of the computational pipeline that enable successful science campaigns.
• Description of tools are acceptable only if the tools or toolchains are critical in enabling such complex workflows. A submission about tools should demonstrate its operation with a large-scale example that actually ran.
• Deep dives into specific topics are not in scope.
