About this Research Topic
"Reviews in Pharmacology of Ion Channels and Channelopathies: 2023" will publish high-quality scholarly review papers on key topics in Pharmacology of Ion Channels and Channelopathies. It aims to highlight recent advances in the field, whilst emphasizing important directions and new possibilities for future inquiries.
We anticipate the research presented will promote discussion in the Pharmacology of Ion Channels and Channelopathies community in characterizing ion channels modulating small molecules and biologics, the involvement of ion channels in cellular pathways, structural modeling including virtual screening of ion channels, and channelopathies and their therapeutic implications.
Topics will include but are not limited to:
• Mechanisms by which ion channels are influenced and regulated by both small molecule drugs and biologics, such as antibodies or peptides, including the therapeutic potential of targeting specific ion channels for various diseases and conditions.
• Involvement of ion channels in cellular pathways such as cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and synaptic transmission.
• Advancements in structural modeling techniques and virtual screening methods used to study ion channels, including the discussion of computational approaches for predicting ion channel structures, conducting virtual screenings of potential modulators, and exploring structure-activity relationships.
• Channelopathies and their therapeutic implications, including both genetic and acquired forms, and their underlying mechanisms. Emerging therapeutic strategies targeting specific ion channels to alleviate symptoms or treat channelopathies.
Overall, "Reviews in Pharmacology of Ion Channels and Channelopathies: 2023" will provide a comprehensive overview of the latest research and developments in the field. It will serve as a valuable resource for researchers, pharmacologists, and clinicians interested in understanding the intricate workings of ion channels and their relevance to human health and disease.
