About this Research Topic
With the rapid development of the international social economy and the acceleration of the industrialization process, the problems of the energy crisis and environmental pollution are becoming intensively serious, which has threatened human health and social stability. Photocatalytic technology, an ideal way of solar energy conversion, storage, and utilization, is an advanced green and clean technology to convert solar energy the most important clean energy into chemical energy, which has a huge application prospect in solving energy shortages and environmental problems. Inspired by natural photosynthesis, a wonderful vision is presented that we learn from nature, imitation of nature and beyond nature. Therefore, a tremendous amount of artificial photosynthesized Z-scheme photocatalysts have been reported so far, and their utilities in water-splitting, CO2 reduction, nitrogen fixation, and pollutants degradation have been extensively investigated.
In this Research Topic, we aim to focus on the recently advanced Z-scheme photocatalysts in designing and preparing, as well as their functions and applications. The Research Topic encourages scientists to deeply discuss the photophysical behaviors of photogenerated carriers, which contributes to the design and construction of photocatalysts and guides to explore the catalytic mechanisms. Based on this, the manuscripts on corresponding DFT calculation are also encouraged to be published. We hope these studies will provide good references for the development of high-efficiency photocatalysts.
