About this Research Topic
nationwide lockdowns. Although the acute disease primarily impacted people’s physical
health, it resulted in additional detrimental consequences that surfaced in the aftermath
of the lockdowns, such as heightened feelings of loneliness and social isolation.
Therefore, it is essential to examine the role of virtual environments (e.g., social media)
in promoting positive adaptation to these difficult circumstances while also evaluating
their potential adverse health and social impacts.
This Research Topic aims to showcase evidence on how social media and general
screen time affected people’s mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to
explore whether these effects have persisted over time. We aim to provide empirical
evidence and evaluate interventions that can help mitigate these effects and promote
best practices in clinical and public health settings.
We invite researchers to submit a range of articles including but not limited to original
research articles, reviews, meta-analyses, opinions, perspectives, and case reports to
provide new evidence on the following:
- The role of social media in impacting mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic
- The role of social media in shaping resilience during the COVID-10 pandemic
- The lessons learnt on the impact of all forms of digital media use and mental
health since the pandemic’s onset and up to the present days
Keywords: mental health, COVID-19, social media, pandemic
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
