About this Research Topic
Over the last decades, the human population is growing and the demand for animal-derived products is increasing. Since climate change is progressively reducing the availability for resources, it appears crucial to promote circular economy approaches and sustainable green process productions at farming level. Therefore, the challenge is to maintain a balance between productivity, animal health and welfare and environmental preservation.
The goal of this Research Topic is to implement the knowledge on circular economy approaches and sustainable green process productions with the aim to valorise and reuse agro-industrial, agricultural, mineral wastes and by-products in farmed animals. The interconnectedness between humans, animals and the environment should be addressed by obtaining insight into the environmental impact, economic efficiency, social sustainability and sustainable animal production, animal health and welfare.
We are pleased to invite authors to submit original research articles, critical reviews, and commentaries that are focused on, but are not limited to, the following themes: - Application of green technologies and circular economy approaches on the breeding, nutrition, feeding, housing and management techniques (including animals, bedding and manure) applied to farmed animals (in all livestock species). - Studies (in-vitro and in-vivo) on the use of non-conventional feeds such as industrial by-products, phytobiotics, ex-food or former food products and alternative crops with nutritional and nutraceutical potential for animal and human health. - Strategies to improve green technologies in the field of animal nutrition and management in order to minimize environmental impact, to improve animal performances and to promote animal health and welfare.
