About this Research Topic
At present, less than 30% of researchers worldwide are women. Long-standing biases, and gender stereotypes such as the perception of STEM as male domains, are discouraging girls and women away from science-related fields, and STEM research in particular.
Science and gender equality are, however, essential to ensure sustainable development as highlighted by UNESCO. Also as stated in several Institutional platforms gender-balance adds to the collective intelligence of a research group, enhancing creativity and providing new perspectives.
In order to change traditional mindsets, gender equality must be promoted, stereotypes defeated, and girls and women should be encouraged to pursue STEM careers.
Therefore, Frontiers in Pharmacology is proud to offer this platform to promote the work of women scientists, across all fields of Neuropharmacology.
The work presented here highlights the diversity of research performed across the entire breadth of Neuropharmacology, focusing on advances in theory, experiment, and methodology related (but not limited to) neurodegenerative diseases to drug or alcohol abuse, with attention to the following topics:
- Therapeutics and diet targeting proteinopathies
- New strategies in Neurodegenerative Diseases
- Regulation of gene expression in substance abuse (e.g. cocaine; cannabinoids)
- Alcohol binge drinking in adult and adolescence
- Psychoactive exposure in adult and adolescence
Please note: to be considered for this collection, the first or last author should be a researcher who identifies as a woman.
