With the explosion of human digital trace data and the rapid improvement of computing performance in the first two decades of the 21st century, artificial intelligence (AI) has experienced a new Renaissance and been pervasive in our daily life. AI applications are at the heart of the most successful areas of computing, including recommender systems, speech recognition, automatic drive, strategic game systems, disease diagnosis and treatment, and so on. On the one hand, AI could learn the way that people judge and make decisions, and thus enrich psychological field and facilitates human life. For example, machine learning and deep learning techniques have achieved in inferring human’s personality and value orientations from their digital traces online or mere facial images. On the other hand, there are still many potential threats and dangers in aspects related to human interests at stake, such as diagnosis errors, algorithmic bias, and privacy leaks. Furthermore, AI as intelligent agent is also perceived, evaluated and judged by humans from instant to instant during the interactions between them.
The current research topic mainly calls for the cutting-edge researches in two interrelated fields, i.e., 1) how various AI techniques could be applied to better help us understand the underlying mechanisms and processes by which humans perceive and process the information from the natural or social worlds, and 2) how humans experience and evaluate intelligence agents or AI applications when they interact with them.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
1. Machine learning as psychological method
2. Natural language processing in psychology
3. Facial perception and convolutional neural networks
4. Psychological processes and deep learning
5. AI in medical applications
6. Interaction between humans and AI
7. AI and morality
