About this Research Topic
Peri-trochanteric fracture is a very common osteoporotic fracture in geriatric patients. Its morbidity is increasing for this and the coming decade. Although surgical treatment has been applied for more than half a century, the results are still not satisfactory. The failure of treatment may lead to catastrophic results. In recent years, quite a lot of new concepts or techniques such as new designed inter-medullary nailing system or multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) for geriatric population, have been discovered, but not enough attention is paid to by clinical surgeons. The main treatment algorism is still old fashion all around the world. In the meantime, however, there are new research, including the reduction and fixation of lateral fragments and medial-posterior fragment, demonstrating promising results to improve clinical outcome.
In this research topic, we want to collect research that focus on the new ideas in this area and by displaying all the new knowledge, clinical surgeons could be able to better apply them to clinical practice achieve better prognosis results.
We welcome submissions on the following topics, but are not limited to:
- New treatment algorisms for geriatric population, including MDTs, or the best opportunity of surgical intervention
- Automatic intelligence application in imaging segmentation and identification
- New risk factors such as lateral wall and medial wall fragments, and local osteoporosis, etc.
- New surgical treatment methods and techniques including reduction techniques or new designed implants
- New rehabilitation strategy after surgery
