About this Research Topic
Climate change is an important driver of biodiversity loss through multiple mechanisms. Some of the effects of climate change on plant diversity include phenological changes, timberline shift, spread of invasive species, pests and diseases, habitat loss, and rises in the frequency and intensity of forest fires. Thus, climate change poses a serious threat to plant survival, which in turn poses a threat to the entire biosphere and human life. Urgent efforts are required to address this alarming situation.
Keeping the effects of climate on plants in consideration, this Research Topic invites research and review articles focusing on but not limited to the following themes:
- How invasive species and biological invasions affect plant conservation
- How phenological alterations due to climate change will affect the conservation of plants
- How climate change affects the distribution of plant species
- How timberline shifts will affect conservation of plants
- How climate change affects plant pathogens and spread of diseases
- Which ecosystems/communities are the most vulnerable to climate change
- How climate change affects fire activity and fire management
- How climate change is perceived by local/indigenous communities
- What are the conservation strategies to cope with changing climatic scenarios
Keywords: Climate change, Biological invasions, Species distribution, Forest fires, Conservation and management
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
