Urbanization brings new challenges, from health to mobility and energy. Smart cities use advanced technologies in their planning and operation to improve the quality of life and achieve economic growth and sustainability. Advancements in semiconductor manufacturing technology enabled the world to access affordable sensors, communication devices, and high-speed processors. The number of mobile connections worldwide surpasses the world's population. These mobile phones can collect real-time information from citizens. On the other side, low-power, long-range communication technologies empowered us to monitor different quantities in cities and rural areas. Using Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) techniques and tools, data analytics and prediction are easier to implement than ever.

How are advanced technologies used to address today’s world challenges? How can IoT technologies be used to achieve smart cities’ goals? How are the security and privacy of citizens addressed? “Smart Cities” is a multidisciplinary domain which seeks contributions from different disciplines.

We are inviting contributors from different disciplines to present their views and experiments to promote and present technologies and applications in the development of today's and future smart cities.
