About this Research Topic
The aim of this Research Topic is to create a platform of peer-reviewed publications that gather updated information regarding recent advances in the research of the intestinal microbiome and probiotic microorganisms considering their impact on human and animal health, including the following topics:
• The cellular and molecular interactions of beneficial microorganisms in the host cells using cutting-edge molecular technologies and omics tools.
• Advances in the development of new functional foods and feeds including probiotics, prebiotics, and symbiotics aimed to improve intestinal health.
• Focus on the interplay of intestinal commensal microorganisms and probiotics with the host, which positively influences the health of humans and animals.
We welcome original research, brief research reports, mini-reviews, and review articles that address the issue of “Intestinal Microbiome and Probiotics in the Omics Era”, including mechanistic studies and the development of new functional foods and feeds.
Keywords: microbiome, probiotics, intestinal health, intestinal immunity, functional foods, omics
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
