About this Research Topic
However, considerable work remains to be done in terms of research and development, notably regarding to climate change, welfare concerns and overall sustainability of production, particularly considering the protracted energy and economic crises, and the threats to food security.
This Research Topic welcomes submissions of Original Research articles, Review articles and Mini Review articles that focus on the recent advances in nutrition and generally in the production of swine, broilers, laying hens, other types of birds (e.g. turkeys, ducks, geese, etc.), and rabbits, particularly in relation to the following subjects:
1) Novel trends in the nutrition of monogastric farm animals.
2) Meat and egg quality.
3) Housing and management practices.
4) Application of innovative and information technology methods to precision feeding and farm control.
5) Farm efficiency from a technical and economic perspective.
We also welcome papers focusing on more specific subjects, such as:
• Effect of genotype and diet on the quality of pork and poultry meat.
• Use of alternative energy and protein sources in the nutrition of pigs and poultry.
• Enhancing performance of monogastric animals and quality of their livestock products by adding feed additives (acidifiers, enzymes, probiotics, prebiotics, and others) and bioactive substances.
• Precision feeding for monogastric farm animals based on innovative applications.
• Development of novel feeding strategies for local genotypes adapted to unfavorable conditions for a more sustainable poultry production.
• Management of nutrition and regulation of the indoor environment in rabbit farms using information technology systems.
• Dealing with heat stress using new feeding and management techniques.
• Reducing the effects of oxidative stress on monogastric animals through modern management practices.
• Analyzing the carbon and water footprints associated with pig and poultry farming and evaluating ways to reduce these footprints.
• Nutritional and technological tools to mitigate the ammonia emission of pig and poultry farming.
