Extreme Hydro-Meteorological Events in a Changing Climate: Monitoring, Risk Assessment, and Early Warning

In recent years, extreme hydro-meteorological events (e.g., floods, droughts, extreme precipitation, heatwave, tropical cyclones, and compound events) (EHMEs) have been soaring across the globe, which have caused widespread disruption in ecosystems, infrastructure, economies, and human health. With expected increases in EHMEs in the 21^st century, more assets and population will be exposed to disasters and confront substantial threats. In this regard, understanding observed changes, improving monitoring and early warning systems, and assessing risk expectations of future extreme events are of pivotality to develop resilience to EHMEs in a changing climate.

This Research Topic aims to gather original and novel studies on the characteristics, mechanisms, future changes, and risk assessment of EHMEs at regional and global scales, which facilitates a better understanding of the monitoring and early warning systems of EHMEs for disaster risk management as well as climate adaptation and mitigation.
