Heat and mass transfer play a vital role in our daily lives. These processes have been under development from ancient times in order to minimize their energetic claims. The applications of heat and mass transfer have wide scope in many industrial and scientific areas, such as heat exchangers, thermal systems, aerospace, power generation, automotive, rotating turbomachinery, materials, chemical processing, renewable energy sources, and industrial equipment. Many academia and industries are focusing on different techniques to improve the rate of heat transfer from/to the relevant system and thus leading efficient and compact design.

Efficient heat and mass transfer rate is key to any thermal system. In order to make a thermal system efficient and compact, the heat and mass transfer rate needs to be enhanced without any adverse effects. This Research Topic focuses on discovering and highlighting different methodologies, processes, and techniques for improving heat and mass transfer within thermal systems. Analytical, numerical, and experimental papers are welcome. This collection aims to provide a platform for researchers to exchange novel advances in this research area.

The scope of this Research Topic encompasses the latest advances in heat and mass transfer, and the applications of these advances to the efficient design of thermal systems. Research works focused on the following heat transfer enhancement methods (that exploit mainly passive techniques) are particularly welcome:
• Turbulators
• Porous media
• Artificial roughness
• Heat pipes
• Nanofluids
• Micro and/or macro channels

Other topics of interest include, but are not limited to, advancements in the following:
• Non-equilibrium and not fully stable media, including mini and/or micro systems
• Conductive heat transfer
• Convective heat transfer
• Radiative heat transfer
• Conjugate heat transfer
• Non-fourier heat transfer
• Numerical analysis
