The contamination of food by pesticides and mycotoxins is a global public health concern. The world’s population is increasing daily, and the area of cultivable land is decreasing due to urbanization. Therefore, we urgently need to increase production for an over-increasing world population. However, farmers are facing many obstacles to increasing their production, including pests and disease control—which globally reduce crop yield by around 20 to 40 per cent every year. On the other hand, due to an increasing world population, by 2050, we will need to produce 60 percent more food. To ensure this demand, control of insect pests and diseases plays a key role. Despite the benefits derived from the use of pesticides, their remaining residues on harvested crops could harm human health and the environment. Consequently, it is necessary to use pesticides following Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and focus on monitoring pesticide residues.

Regular monitoring of pesticides and mycotoxins residues in different food commodities will help us to know the actual scenario of pesticides and mycotoxin residues load in food, soil, and water. Due to the intake of contaminated food, there is a possibility of retaining pesticides and mycotoxins residues in the blood, serum and urine, which have a serious Public Health impact. Monitoring studies will allow us to easily assess the risk of pesticides and mycotoxins residues, which could help presearchers, policy planners, businesspeople and other relevant stakeholders to take necessary actions to minimize the risks associated with the exposure of pesticides and mycotoxins.

This Research Topic includes, but is not limited to, the following themes:

 Monitoring of pesticide residues in blood, serum, and urine;
 Monitoring of pesticide residues in food, soil, water, and sediment;
 Acute and chronic risk assessment of pesticide residues;
 Monitoring of mycotoxins residues in different agricultural commodities;
 Development and validation of accurate analytical method using LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, GC and HPLC to quantify pesticide residues.
