Over the past decades, the discovery of the genes involved in autoinflammatory syndromes together with the insights into their innate immune mechanisms have revolutionized the paradigm of definition, classification and therapeutical approach of the different autoinflammatory diseases. The research of pathogenic mechanisms in autoinflammation has been focused in the knowledge of inflammasomes, the identification of molecular links between disease-causing mutations, altered pathways of inflammation and final disease phenotypes, and the identification of molecular targets, which has finally changed the quality of life and the survival of patients with these previous untreatable diseases.
All these facts make autoinflammatory diseases one of the most active fields of translational research nowadays.
As two researchers deeply interested in autoinflammatory syndromes, we propose to gather the world top experts in autoinflammation and autoinflammatory diseases for a new and attractive Research Topic in Frontiers in Immunology, which will include scientific articles covering the spectrum of all the mentioned aspects of this fascinating field.
Important Note:
All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
