About this Research Topic
This Research Topic concerns the long-term storage effects of Plutonium materials, including corrosion, radiolysis, radiation effects, and materials degradation as well as the monitoring and identification of these materials.
Long-term storage of Plutonium-bearing materials represents a challenge for many nations. These materials require monitoring of possible material degradation, corrosion, and radiolytic effects in associated materials and potential waste forms.
Given the lengthy times that Plutonium materials have remained sealed before they might need to be opened, retrieved, or re-packaged, there is a potential for loss of knowledge on handling and understanding of these materials.
We welcome the submission of all types of manuscripts covering the following topics:

- Methods to monitor material degradation.
- Signatures for plutonium materials.
- Corrosion and radiolytic effects in associated materials and potential waste forms.
