About this Research Topic
The goal of this Research Topic is to promote and highlight the use of plant-based, whole-food, and fasting protocols in clinical settings, including both hospital and community. Patient improvements demonstrated in case studies, especially those conditions that lack effective established therapy can help individual patients to carefully trial novel treatments, and help health systems to more efficiently allocate resources to areas of potential investigation, or treatment.
The focus of this Research Topic is to showcase underutilized nutritional interventions, especially plant-based diets and fasting, which may lead to theories based on patient experiences and observations, and ultimately novel therapeutic benefits. We welcome submissions related to, but not limited to, the following:
• Non-communicable disease
• Studies involving human patients, from case reports, or case-series through to RCTs
• Reviews which highlight novel mechanisms or hypotheses
• Translational research
• Hospital or community based setting
Purely mechanistic research, or animal models are not in scope. Interventions using commercially available nutritional formula are also not in scope.
Keywords: fasting, Plant-based, nutrition, disease, outcomes
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
