About this Research Topic
Nematode and platyhelminth parasites inflict considerable distress and disease on humans and animals. In the absence of effective sanitation, clean water supplies, and effective vaccines, anthelmintic drugs are used for both treatment and prevention. The regular use of mass administration of a limited number of anthelmintic drugs has given rise to resistance in domestic animals and is a concern for humans as well.
In order to protect and improve the effective use of anthelmintic drugs, we need to know more about how each of the anthelmintics work and the mechanisms of resistance that are used by the parasites. In this Research Topic, we will cover recent advances and discoveries about the modes of action of the anthelmintic drugs and mechanisms of resistance. By this means, we hope to conserve and improve their therapeutic value
