About this Research Topic
Immune surveillance is a process that fights against illness, especially from the various attacks of viruses, bacteria, tumor antigens, and other foreign bodies that can be rapidly identified as foreign antigens and eliminated by immune cells. Over the past decade, nanomaterial‐based immunotherapy demonstrated rapid advancement in improving disease control by immune regulation with a constant investigation on optimizing nanoparticle synthesis, fabrication, and functionalization approaches. Recently, in anticancer immunotherapy, immune cell activation, tumor microenvironment modulation and a combination with other antitumor approaches have emerged as a potential treatment modality for anticancer therapy. Of late, several research groups demonstrated promising effects of nanomaterial vaccines against viral infections including the recent SARS-COVID-19. Additionally, immunomodulatory nanoparticles are also a good choice for the treatment of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. In regenerative medicine, the nanoarchitecture and structural anisotropy of the implanted materials regulate the immune response. Altogether, investigating novel nanosystems for modulating the immune system is currently a promising area of research with great potential for clinical translation towards improving healthcare and disease management.
We welcome research articles, review articles as well as short communications in this Research Topic. The central theme of this research topic is to address the current advances in the Nanoparticles based Immunomodulatory strategies for biomedical applications with a special focus on the following areas:
• Nanoparticle particle-based immunomodulatory strategies to regulate various immune-related cells or pathways (macrophages, T cells, etc.)
• Immunomodulatory nanoparticle for treating the cancer
• Combination of Immunotherapy to treat cancer
• Immunomodulatory nanoparticles to treat against infectious diseases, such as: human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), influenza, encephalitis, hepatitis, Ebola, Pneumonia,SARS-COVID-19
• Nanoparticle mediated immune regulation in tissue repair and regeneration
• Nanoparticle mediated treatment for inflammatory and autoimmune diseases
