About this Research Topic
In this Resarch Topic, we want to encourage leading researchers to share their more recent original findings on COVID-19 with the scientific community in a holistic way; they wil be related to the immunopathogenesis of the virus to the occurrence of organ damage. Special attention will be paid to the relationship between these inflammatory and immunoglogic alterations present in the patients (immunophenotypes) with the development of organic complications not only in the short term, but in the medium/long term, as well as with the treatments received.
Original articles related to immunopathogenesis of COVID-19, novel biomarkers related to COVID-19 prognosis and complications, organ damage in those affected in the medium or long term, and related treatments in COVID-19 will be welcomed.
Original research works will be prioritized, especially clinical trials, but systematic reviews/mini-reviews and case studies will also be considered.
Keywords: SARS CoV-2, infection, COVID-19, inflammation, organ failure, biomarkers, prognosis
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
