About this Research Topic
The human body evolves multiple mechanisms to maintain lipid homeostasis, such as low-density lipoprotein receptor mediates clearance of circulating low-density lipoprotein cholesterol; phospholipid transfer protein mediates the transfer of phospholipids from apoB-containing triglyceride-rich lipoprotein to high-density lipoprotein, etc.
This Research Topic focuses on the molecular mechanisms of proteins and pathways relevant to lipid metabolism and human disease and the translation of this knowledge to develop novel therapeutics with improved efficacy.
This Research Topic welcomes Original Research and Review articles on:
1) Cholesterol metabolism including cholesterol uptake, efflux and transport.
2) Metabolism of circulating lipoproteins.
Keywords: Cholesterol, PCSK9, LDL receptor, lipoprotein, atherosclerosis, diabetes, phospholipid transfer protein, ABC transporters, cardiovascular disease
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
