We are delighted to present the Rising Stars: Ophthalmology 2021 article collection. This collection showcases the high-quality work of internationally recognized researchers in the early stages of their independent careers.
All Rising Star researchers were individually nominated by the Frontiers in Medicine editors in recognition of their potential to influence the future directions in their respective fields. The work presented here highlights the diversity of research performed across the entire breadth of ophthalmology and presents advances in theory, experiment, and methodology with applications to compelling problems.

Early career ophthalmologists are welcomed with a strong scientific background and frequent involvement with international meetings in the field, who have the potential to influence the future direction of Ophthalmology. Topic editors will consider the submission of original research and review articles to this collection, including systematic review and mini-review article types.
