About this Research Topic
While numerous mechanisms have been proposed for this epidemic of obesity, it is well agreed upon that lack of physical activity and high calorie intake plays causal roles. Understanding the causes that lead to obesity and also its prevention or reversion are of public health priority. This could be managed by either modification of lifestyle (through physical activity to restore energy balance or reduction of calorie intake, proper diet that is rich in fiber, increasing energy outlay) or using adequate medication.
The aim of this Research Topic is to gather multidisciplinary specialists to provide new and creative up-to-date work on the recent advances and achievements in this field of study that covers the subject as thoroughly as possible.
We invite articles that examine the state-of-art pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies, and their underlying mechanisms on obesity. We encourage interested scientists to submit original articles, review articles and perspectives covering the following topics but not limited to:
- New therapeutic agents for the treatment of obesity.
- Non-canonical uses of established drugs
- Physical activity in prevention and treatment of obesity.
- Nutritional strategies in obesity management
- Surgical procedures for the treatment of obesity
- Role of gut microbiota in weight management
- Efficacy of plants and/or phytochemicals in improving inflammation and glycemic control
- Metabolic mediators activity in obesity
- Fetal programming and early-life influence on obesity.
