Calcium metabolism homeostasis is guaranteed by a refined hormonal control which includes the effects of three main players PTH, Vitamin D and FGF23. They synergistically act in a complex hormonal crosstalk, with the aim to maintain calcium concentration in a narrow range, for cellular functions.

The aim of this Research Topic is to expand the knowledge about the interaction among these hormones and to collect novel data about the interruption of this balance, which occurs during endocrine diseases involving PTH, 25OHD and FGF23 alterations.

We will collect original articles and reviews which will address the comprehension of the mechanisms involved in the crosstalk among these hormones both in the physiological and in the physio-pathological context.

We encourage submissions on the pathological alteration involved in calcium metabolism diseases, with special attention to the following pathological conditions: hyperparathyroidism, hypoparathyroidism, hypovitaminosis D, skeletal and extra-skeletal effects, and FGF23 disturbance.

Original articles which a more Translational Medicine direction will be also welcome and can be submitted via the appropriate section.
