About this Research Topic
Dentistry constitutes a major part of equine general practice with a high proportion of horses suffering from serious dental disorders that are of major welfare concern. Despite its great importance, equine dentistry was a neglected area for scientific research until relatively recently. However, over the last 25 years there have been major advances in objective equine dental research, which has attracted much attention from clinicians and academics worldwide. Secondary sinusitis commonly accompanies equine maxillary cheek teeth infections and the use of standing computed tomography has allowed major advances in our understanding of the anatomically complex equine sinuses.
This series of papers encompassing, imaging, surgical and pathological aspects of equine dental and sinus disease provides the latest peer-reviewed research from eminent international researchers and will be of interest to academics, surgeons and imagers.
The scope of this special issue includes, but is not limited to:
• Computed tomographic imaging of equine sinus disease
• Aetiopathogenesis of equine dental disorders
• Objective assessment of equine dental surgical techniques
