About this Research Topic
Many processes and technologies have been developed for the efficient conversion of biomass to chemicals, fuels and materials, including thermochemical, chemical, physical, and biochemical technologies. Among these, thermochemical and chemical processes can involve the application of catalytic material to boost product yields. However, the recalcitrance and complexity of biomass have led to big challenges over its effective utilization and augmented the necessity to explore the efficient and selective catalytic systems and reaction processes. This Research Topic aims to tackle the challenge and issues in current stage of biomass valorization, by developing novel, selective and stable catalytic systems based on a better understanding of the reaction mechanism.
Therefore, this Research Topic aims to highlight processes and technologies related to catalytic conversion of biomass to fuels, fine chemicals and valuable materials using various catalytic materials. We welcome Original Research Papers, Methods, Mini Reviews and Reviews related to (but are not limited to) the following themes:
1. Design of new catalysts for efficient conversion of biomass or its derivatives
2. Green synthetic routes, processes and mechanisms of fuels and fine chemicals from biomass
3. Development of functional carbon materials and biodegradable biopolymers from biomass
4. Energy-efficient reactors and technologies, bio-, photo-, or electrocatalysis for biomass upgrading
5. Transformation of wastes into useful products
Keywords: biomass conversion, catalysis, value-added chemicals, functional materials, liquid fuels
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements.
