About this Research Topic
Later field of research/application has attracted much attention over recent years. Namely pulsed electric fields (PEF) in biotechnology is being rapidly developed and used in wide range of areas, such as exploitation of microorganisms for producing value compounds, manufacture of biofuels from renewable feedstocks, as well as microbial inactivation for wastewater treatment and nonthermal food processing.
We anticipate that advances of using PEF in biotechnology could surpass environmental damage, save process time and enable future development of more efficient biofuels and bioproducts.
This Research Topic will collect selected contributions from attendants of the 3rd World Congress on Electroporation, Pulsed Electric Fields in Biology, Medicine, Food and Environmental Technologies, held in Toulouse, France, on 3rd-6th September 2019.
The multidisciplinary of this Research Topic is of great value for anyone interested in the results of using electric pulses in biotechnology.
The goal of this Research Topic is to review the current state of knowledge, and to open new insights, regarding using electric fields for biotechnology purposes. We encourage submissions addressing topics such as:
- extraction of value compounds by electro technologies from plants, biomass, bacteria, yeast, microalgae or other organisms;
- the influence of electric field on cell and cell tissue characteristics, product modification and properties;
- use of electric fields in lignocellulosic and microalgae biorefineries, microbial bioprocessing, microbial transformation;
- equipment design in biotechnology.
Contributors are welcome to submit Original Research, Mini-review and Review articles related to the selected topics covered in the 3rd World Congress on Electroporation. Submissions to this Research Topic are limited to the conference attendees and their co-authors.
