About this Research Topic
In fact, nanotheranostics, combining diagnostic capacities and therapeutic effects in a single system, have attracted increasing attention in recent years due to their potential exploitation in personalized medicine, including neurological and tumor-related treatments. Theranostic platforms aim to combine diagnostic and therapeutic abilities into a single nanodevice, thus allowing both early detection of the pathology and targeted treatment. Such smart and integrated tools can also lead to real-time readouts of disease biomarkers, thereby helping to guide therapy in a personalized manner.
This Research Topic will focus on novel functionalized nanocarriers such as targeted nanoparticles, nanomicelles, nanocapsules, superparamagnetic nanoparticles and other nano-platforms for therapy and diagnosis, stimulating new ideas in research groups working in the theranostic area. Furthermore, great attention will be devoted to the synthesis and physicochemical characterization of theranostic agents at the nanoscale, as well as to their biological and medical evaluation for potential future applications, envisaging clinical translation and hopefully a forthcoming use in clinical praxis.
