Applications of proteomics studies are expanding thanks to the advancements of technology. Mass spectrometry is largely used for protein identification, quantification, protein-protein interaction, structure and dynamics studies, and protein-protein complexes characterization. Protein microarrays are another tool for protein qualitative and quantitative investigation. The complexity of the scenario is completed by the heterogeneity of data, together with the availability of a large amount of data from other omics domains. Computational and bioinformatics resources offer tools for the needed integration of data, by considering that the most full interpretation of complex phenomena requires now comparison and integration of knowledge from the different level of genomics (gene expression, protein expression, protein function), in the biomedical area as well as in biotechnology and agri-food studies.
This Research Topic is part of the NETTAB / BBCC 2019 Meeting (http://www.igst.it/nettab/2019/) and aims to include articles that describe novel development of tools for the analysis of proteomics data, their integration with omics data from genomics level in studies that add knowledge into the complexity of biology using inter-omics approaches. We welcome Original Research, Systematic Review, Mini-Review, and Hypothesis and Theory articles.
