Published on Oct 3, 2012 Learn more about research in the Danzer Lab at http://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/re... PTEN deletion in postnatally generated granule cells in the dentate gyrus of the mouse hippocampus is sufficient to cause seizures (Pun et. al, 2012, Neuron). Video shows a three dimensional rotational image of fluorescently labeled cells in which PTEN has been deleted in the upper and lower blades of the dentate gyrus. The two blades come together near the medial edge of the hippocampus as shown in the image, providing a three dimensional view of the granule cell layer and the hilus. Images were taken using a Nikon A1R MP upright confocal microscope in both single and multiphoton modes with an Apo LWD 25x water immesion objective. Image was depth coded using ImageJ software which produces the spectrum of colors. Image depth is 500um.
