About

Inflammatory and immune disease is a broad term for a variety of diseases with presumed inflammatory and immune pathomechanisms for example inflammatory bowel disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis. These diseases usually have a strong genetic predisposition. Genetic studies especially genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in the last decades have identified hundreds of genetic variants robustly associated with these diseases. These findings shed biological insights into disease mechanisms and have the potential to identify drug targets of interest.

This Research Topic aims to investigate the genetic basis for inflammatory and immune diseases, elucidate the mechanisms underlying genetic associations, and discover new therapeutic targets. This topic hopes to include GWAS, both analytic and experimental integrative study post GWAS, the study of genetic mechanisms, and the application of sequencing technologies (e.g. single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptome, CRISPR systems) in inflammatory and immune diseases.

The purpose of this Research Topic is to explore the genetic mechanisms of inflammatory and immune diseases. In this Research Topic, we welcome original research articles, reviews, opinion, perspective, systematic review, and case reports (which follow the section's guidelines) including but not limited to the following themes:

• Identification of genetic loci for inflammatory and immune diseases

• Integration of genome-wide association studies and omics data

• Investigation on the pathophysiological mechanisms for GWAS loci of inflammatory and immune diseases

• Application of the state-of-art sequencing tools (e.g., single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptome, and CRISPR system) in inflammatory and immune diseases
