About this Research Topic
While boron is used in many diverse everyday items including insulation materials and structural applications (fiberglass), cleaning products (sodium perborate) and fertilizers (borax), boron is also a core component for many chemical reactions including reduction, hydroboration (followed by oxidation), as a Lewis Acid catalyst, and as an integral component of the Suzuki cross coupling reaction.
Although the synthetic aspects of boron chemistry are very important, this Research Topic will showcase the importance of “boron” in supramolecular chemistry. This includes systems where the boron is essential to the supramolecular nature of the system (i.e. sensing and self-assembly), and systems where boron is not directly involved in the supramolecular aspect of the chemistry but remains an essential component of the system (i.e. the BODIPY fluorophore).
We welcome original research and topical review articles that focus on:
• Boron in fluorophores and for sensing applications
• self-assembly systems containing Boron
• supramolecular polymers and materials showcasing Boron
• Boron used for separation
