About this Research Topic
Endocannabinoid-mediated retrograde signaling is a fundamental element of well-balanced synaptic transmission throughout the CNS, but our understanding of the governing principles of endocannabinoid signaling at the molecular, synaptic and circuit levels is still limited. Recent developments in the medical and recreational use of marijuana, a major modulator of the endocannabinoid pathway, urges better insights into the neurobiological mechanisms of therapeutic or adverse cannabis effects. Co-edited by the organizers of the « 2019 Cannabinoid Function in the CNS » Gordon Research Conference, this Research Topic focuses on current questions of cannabinoid research community:
• What are the molecular mechanisms of endocannabinoid signaling, a delicate process tightly regulated by the synaptic nanoarchitecture?
• What did we learn recently about new endocannabinoid enzymes and the new functions for classical enzymes?
• Why should we consider cannabinoid receptors as atypical GPCRs? How canonical and non-canonical forms of cannabinoid functions regulate brain circuit functions?
• What is our current knowledge about medical marijuana and epilepsy?
• What are the different forms of adaptive and maladaptive endocannabinoid signaling in behavior?
• Finally, what is our current knowledge about beneficial and adverse behavioral effects of cannabis?
