In 2014 the Research Topic “Advances in Childhood Sleep Assessment: The Tool” was launched as a response to the publications “Development of pediatric sleep questionnaires as diagnostic or epidemiological tools: a brief review of dos and don'ts” and “Pediatric Sleep Questionnaires as Diagnostic or Epidemiological Tools: A Review of Currently Available Instruments”. The field of pediatric sleep has greatly evolved since then and a real boost in new technologies and approaches is noted. With this Research Topic we offer a platform to publish work on both novel “tools” to assess or diagnose sleep disorders and circadian rhythm disorders in children. We are particularly interested to welcome diagnostic tools applied to children with developmental disabilities.
We therefore call for authors to submit Original Research and Mini Review articles focusing on novel approaches and advances in the assessment of pediatric sleep (i.e. 0-18 years). The goal of this Research Topic is to bring together newly developed sleep tools and older tools that have been psychometrically modified towards specific populations or sleep disorders. Furthermore, we welcome Method Articles that study new algorithms, diagnostic techniques and other approaches to assess a child’s sleep.

All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
