About this Research Topic
Environment and Health includes research articles dealing with innovative investigations and modern approaches on environmental pollution and its potential interference with ecosystems and human health. The Research Topic is primarily focused on the study of interactions, pathways and transfer of pollutants from the environment to humans, including specific investigation on bioavailability and/or bioaccessibility of traditional and emerging contaminants. This Research Topic offers a unique opportunity to create and implement conceptual links and effective “bridges” between different scientific communities, which need innovative multidisciplinary conceptual tools for deeper understanding of linear/non linear relationships between environment and health.
We seek to publish papers focused on
• physico-chemical processes, sources and pathways of traditional and emerging contaminants in different environmental compartments and at the air-water-soil-sediment interfaces
• transfer of contaminants in the marine and terrestrial ecosystems and interactions at biochemical and molecular level
• effects of population exposure to pollutants in highly contaminated areas (epidemiological studies)
• risk assessment in areas affected by relevant anthropogenic impacts
• mechanisms of transfer of contaminants from the environment to humans by diet, inhalation and dermal contact
• research communication, evaluation of risk perception and relationship with communities as a support of study development and risk governance.
Environment and Health is one of the first publishing venues that will focus on strengthening this vital bridge.
