About this Research Topic
Various mechanisms are involved, including the release of paracrine factors, reactive oxygen species, microparticles, non‐coding RNAs, and chemokines. These agents may serve to maintain normal cardiac ultrastructure and function, or cause changes that undermine heart function. The “canonical” concept of microvascular endothelium, considered a passive bystander or innocent victim of cardiomyocyte‐driven remodeling events that occur with various assaults or injuries of the heart, is now changing.
The goal of this Research Topic is to highlight recent developments in this emerging area of heart research by compiling review articles and original research studies.
