Background

One of the leading causes of death for women is breast cancer, hence the development of innovative and potent anti-cancer drugs is urgently needed. Products made from natural plants have demonstrated encouraging anti-cancer effects. Compared to anti-cancer drugs that target hormones, they are said to be less toxic when used, safer, and less likely to cause recurrent resistances.

The immunomodulatory properties of plants have been studied extensively and are of greater interest due to increasing awareness and combating the severity of immunomodulatory diseases. Plants are an incredible source of traditional medicines that help cure various diseases, including altered immune mechanisms, and are economical and benign compared to allopathic medicines. Polyphenols or phenolics constitute one or more hydroxyl substituents in an aromatic ring and functional derivatives (glycosides, esters, etc.). Different bioactive molecule’s source that are beneficial for the treatment of different types cancer are Ginseng, Garlic (Allium sativum), Black cohosh (Actaea racemose), Tumeric (Curcuma longa), Camellia sinenis (green tea), Echinacea, Arctium (burdock), Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum) and Black Cumin (Nigella sativa). Natural phytomolecules which have anticancer potentials are Hydrocinnamic acid derivatives, Myricetin, Kaempferol, sesquiterpenoids, Isodeoxyelephantopin, deoxyelephantopin, sesquiterpene lactones, Taxol Tanshinone IIA, 6-Hydroxy-5,6-dehydrosugiol Boswellic acid, Ursolic acid, Betulinic acid.

The herbs displayed anti-cancer properties and their outcomes and mechanisms of action include inhibition of cell proliferation, angiogenesis and apoptosis as well as modulation of key intracellular pathways.

Immunomodulators are biological response modifiers; that exert their antitumor effects by improving host defence mechanisms against the tumour. Immunomodulatory therapy could provide an alternative to conventional chemotherapy for a variety of diseased conditions, especially when the host’s defence mechanisms have to be activated under the conditions of impaired immune responsiveness or when a selective immunosuppression has to be induced in a situation, like inflammatory diseases, auto-immune disorders ad organ/bone marrow transplantation. The design and development of these lead molecules through chemical modification to augment efficacy, safety, and selectivity is needed to make them a better option for treating diseases.

Nanotechnology-based delivery systems function as drug carriers that can overcome herbal medicines' various limitations, including increasing the bioavailability and bioactivity of phytochemicals. The approach using nanotechnology can be a promising innovative technology that is applied to phytochemical constituents, increasing the phytotherapy efficiency of herbal medicines. Recent developments in nanotechnology have led to renewed interest in herbal medicinal formulations. Several delivery system approaches, such as phytosomes, solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN), nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC), polymeric nanoparticles, nanoemulsions, etc., have been proposed. Nanoparticles have been used to modify and improve the pharmacokinetic properties of different drugs, so the nanotechnology approach is expected to increase the bioavailability and bioactivity of herbal medicines.



The goal of this research is to design and develop herbal formulations, which are safe and economic for the population. The advantages of herbal formulation are several but among are the best is, it has fewer side effects. Approach of nano formulation targeted delivery reduce the side effects as well the natural bioactive molecules are immune modulator it can enhance the defence mechanism to fight and prevent the cancers cells.
