Background

Bioactive compounds are natural or synthetic chemical entities that exert biological effects on living organisms. They include a diverse range of molecules, such as phytochemicals, secondary metabolites, peptides, and synthetic analogs. Historically, bioactive compounds have been integral to drug discovery, agricultural innovation, and functional food development. Recent advancements in analytical techniques, omics technologies, and bioassays have enabled deeper exploration of their mechanisms and therapeutic potentials. However, challenges such as low bioavailability, toxicity, and limited scalability demand a concerted effort from the scientific community to uncover novel compounds and optimize their use in various applications.

This Research Topic aims to address the pressing need for comprehensive studies on the discovery, characterization, and application of bioactive compounds. The primary objective is to advance our understanding of their molecular mechanisms and therapeutic potentials, while also exploring innovative strategies to overcome challenges associated with their development.
