In the field of gender studies, recent inquiries have focused intensively on the rise of antifeminist ideas and practices within global political movements. Highlighted by the involvement of populist far-right figures and the propagation of reactionary ideologies, these movements challenge foundational feminist principles across various political spectrums. Despite growing literature from scholars such as Blee, Corredor, and Graff, several studies predominantly scrutinize the association of masculinity with toxicity, overlooking broader societal norms that coalesce antifeminist sentiments with structural forms of oppression such as patriarchy.

This Research Topic aims to broaden the analysis of antifeminism by examining its manifestations not just among conservative circles but also in progressive and leftist factions, with a sharper international and global focus. We aim to dissect the complex interactions between antifeminist stances and feminist responses, emphasizing how feminist groups adapt and respond through empowered, strategic repertoires that engage intersectional and decolonial approaches. A critical examination of how these dynamics play out at different scales—local, national, and international—is crucial for understanding the resilience and adaptability of feminist politics in the face of rising antifeminism.

To gather further insights in the broad and often overlapping contexts of gender politics, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

• Comparative studies of antifeminist strategies across different political ideologies, including the exploration of antifeminist (political) masculinities and femininities.

• Strategies of feminist political movements around the world in countering antifeminist narratives.
• Intersectionality in feminist responses, including collaborations with LGBTQIA+, anti-racist groups, and institutional allies.
