Given the success of the previous Research Topic 'Probiotics and Their Metabolites in Cancer Therapy', we are pleased to launch a second volume for further submissions.

In the complex landscape of oncology, the exploration of probiotic microbes and their metabolites presents a novel avenue for cancer. Probiotics, live microorganisms derived from fermented foods and gut flora, ranging from bacterial strains like Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium to yeasts such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii, are increasingly acknowledged for their therapeutic potential. Recent discoveries have underscored their role in not only enhancing gut health but also in modulating immune responses and preventing tumorigenesis through various mechanisms. These include the degradation of carcinogens, modulation of immune systems by enhancing cytokine pathways, and the lowering of gut pH through the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs).

This Research Topic aims to delve into the roles of both viable and non-viable probiotic forms and their metabolites in the context of cancer treatment, exploring alternative therapeutic mechanisms and potential adjuvant benefits in conventional cancer treatments. By examining the molecular interactions and efficacy of probiotics and their products, the research seeks to further understand and document their impact on cancer cell pathways and immune system responses, providing an additional layer of strategy in the combat against cancer.

To gather further insights into these probiotic applications, our focus will be on submissions that explore the intricate relationships between probiotics and cancer therapies. We welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
