About this Research Topic
This Research Topic aims to explore and advocate for the integration of structured exercise regimens in the post-operative care of pediatric patients with CHD. By extending rehabilitation into the home setting and providing age-appropriate guidelines at discharge, there is a unique opportunity to enhance recovery, support motor development, and facilitate a return to normal activities among this vulnerable population.
To address the gaps in post-surgical care for pediatric CHD patients, the scope of this research topic will focus on:
• Establishing the feasibility and safety of exercise programs tailored for pediatric patients;
• Evaluating clinical outcomes associated with post-operative exercise training such as improvements in cardiovascular and pulmonary functions, and overall quality of life.
We encourage submissions that cover, but are not limited to, the following:
• Case studies on post-operative exercise interventions in pediatric CHD;
• Clinical trials assessing different models of delivery for exercise training;
• Reviews on the long-term impacts of physical activity on pediatric cardiac health.
By focusing on these areas, the research community can develop more comprehensive rehabilitation protocols that could significantly boost the recovery and long-term health of children recovering from heart surgery.
