Motor coordination is vital for the development of physical, cognitive, and social skills in children. However, many children with developmental disorders, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), face significant challenges in this area. These challenges, including delayed motor skills, instability, and difficulty with complex tasks, can negatively impact daily living, self-esteem, and social interactions. Research indicates that these deficits are linked to neurodevelopmental imbalances, though the exact mechanisms remain unclear.
Various interventions, such as physical therapy, sensory integration, and movement-based behavioral therapies, have been explored to improve motor coordination in these children. These interventions focus on enhancing neuromuscular synergy, sensory perception, and attention. However, the effectiveness of these approaches varies due to individual differences, highlighting the need for personalized intervention plans. Further research into the underlying mechanisms and effective strategies is crucial to improving the quality of life for children with developmental disorders.
The aim of this Research Topic is to explore the mechanism of motor coordination problem of developmental disorder children, provide potential intervention technology which could tackle the motor coordination problem of these children, and explore how the motor coordination problems interact with core symptom of developmental disorder.
In this research topic, we welcome original research, case reports, and reviews targeting children with developmental disorders that include, but are not limited to the following sub-topics:
● The motor coordination characteristics of developmental disorder children
● The relationship between motor coordination function and core symptoms of developmental disorder
● The neuropsychological traits of motor coordination among developmental disorder children, such as neuroimage traits and neuroelectrophysiological traits
● Motor-related intervention on developmental disorder children
Other researches which related to the research topic are welcome.
