With the rapid development of economy and society, energy demand is gradually rising and the problem of global energy shortage is becoming increasingly prominent and serious. Facing the pressure of energy crisis and environmental protection, the development and utilization of renewable energy has attracted worldwide attention. However, renewable energy generation, such as wind and solar energy, is intermittent, random and unpredictable, which hinders its further development and utilization. Hybrid renewable energy systems (HRESs), which combine different kinds of renewable energy sources and energy storage systems, can effectively overcome these shortcomings of alone renewable energy generation stations. Besides, they can improve the system power quality and power supply reliability. To reduce the curtailment rate of renewable energy generations and system costs of the HRESs, many methods have been proposed to investigate the planning and operation of HRESs. And several real HRESs have been applied in practice. Therefore, studying on HRESs has important research significance and realization value to improve the utilization rate of renewable energy, alleviate the energy shortage and improve the environment.
This Research Topic aims to bring together the state-of-the-art advances in planning and operation of hybrid renewable energy systems, including but not limited to efficient use of renewable energy including wind, solar and hydropower. Both High-quality Original Research and Review articles in this field are all welcome for submission to this Research Topic.
The topics of interests include, but are not limited to:
- Design optimization and integration technology of HRESs
- Operation characteristics and stability analysis of HRESs
- Control and scheduling technologies of HRESs
- Technology of energy storage systems in HRESs
- Prediction technology of renewable energy power generation
- Coordinated control technology for active participation in power grid regulation of HRESs
