About this Research Topic
The goal of this Research Topic is to address the persistent challenge of treatment resistance and poor survival outcomes in complex cancers such as glioblastoma, urogenital cancers, and bladder cancer. These malignancies exhibit highly aggressive behavior, therapeutic resistance, and significant heterogeneity, complicating the effectiveness of traditional treatments. Recent advances in therapeutic strategies, including radiation oncology techniques like photon therapy and carbon ion irradiation, provide more precise targeting of tumor cells while sparing healthy tissues, offering hope for improved treatment outcomes.
Additionally, epigenetic modifications, RNA-based therapies, and immunotherapies have emerged as promising avenues to disrupt key cancer-driving pathways and modulate the immune system to enhance anti-tumor responses. By integrating these new strategies, the aim is to overcome resistance mechanisms and improve long-term survival rates in patients with these complex cancers. This Research Topic seeks to explore the potential of these combined therapeutic modalities, focusing on how they can be effectively used to combat the aggressive nature of glioblastoma, urogenital, and bladder cancers, and to ultimately bring forward more effective and durable treatment options for these challenging malignancies.
This Research Topic invites contributions that explore cutting-edge therapeutic strategies for treating complex cancers, with a focus on glioblastoma, urogenital cancers, and bladder cancer. We are particularly interested in studies that investigate novel combinations of radiation therapies, such as photon therapy and carbon ion irradiation, along with epigenetic modifications, RNA-based treatments, and immunotherapies. Submissions should focus on how these approaches can be integrated to enhance therapeutic efficacy and overcome resistance mechanisms in these aggressive malignancies.
We welcome original research, review articles, perspectives, and clinical studies that provide innovative insights into these advanced therapeutic strategies for complex cancers. Specific themes of interest include:
1. Precision radiation therapies (photon therapy, carbon ion irradiation) for complex cancers.
2. Role of epigenetic modifications in modulating cancer progression and treatment response.
3. RNA-based therapies targeting specific oncogenic pathways.
4. Immunotherapy advancements and their applications in glioblastoma, urogenital, and bladder cancers.
5. Combination therapy approaches to overcome therapeutic resistance.
6. Preclinical and clinical studies exploring novel therapeutic combinations.
Please note that manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics or computational analysis of public genomic or transcriptomic databases which are not accompanied by robust and relevant validation (clinical cohort or biological validation in vitro or in vivo) are out of scope for this Research Topic.
