About this Research Topic
September has been designated as Sepsis Awareness Month by Sepsis Alliance since 2011, and is dedicated to raising awareness about sepsis, its symptoms, and the importance of early detection and treatment. Sepsis is a potentially life-threatening condition that occurs when the body’s response to infection goes into overdrive, causing widespread inflammation that can lead to organ failure and death if not treated promptly.
During Sepsis Awareness Month, various organizations, healthcare professionals, patient advocacy groups, and communities come together to educate the public about sepsis and its potentially devastating consequences.
This Research Topic will be used as a platform to shine a light on the latest state-of-the-art research advancing our understanding of sepsis. This topic is also an opportunity to highlight the challenges in the field, as well as the importance of early detection and treatment.
Researchers are encouraged to submit Original Research, Reviews, as well as exceptional Case-Reports that are relevant to this article collection that will cover topics such as (but are not limited to):
• Recent advances on the detection and treatment of sepsis or septic shock
• Management of septic patients in the Intensive Care Unit
• Current challenges in the management of sepsis
• Patient and caregivers’ experiences of sepsis
