The global population of older individuals is increasing, drawing significant attention to nutritional strategies for older adults. Frailty and multimorbidity are prevalent health issues among older individuals, both known to be associated with malnutrition, leading to worsened outcomes. Consequently, there is a pressing need for evidence regarding the prevention and clinical nutritional management of these conditions. In particular, the evidence on nutrition for multimorbidity is limited. Comprehensive evidence is required, ranging from basic nutrition, including body composition and energy metabolism, to preventive strategies and clinical nutritional management.
The goal is to gather evidence on nutritional management for the prevention and treatment of frailty and multimorbidity. This includes evidence related to body composition and energy metabolism, clinical nutritional management using intervention and observational study methods, and nutritional epidemiology evidence using ecological studies and cohort study databases.
This Research Topic is intended to:
• Investigate changes in nutritional status, body composition, and energy metabolism in frailty, multimorbidity, and related conditions, as well as the foundational aspects of nutritional management.
• Gather insights on nutritional strategies for the prevention of frailty, multimorbidity, and related conditions.
• Assess the effects of nutritional interventions on frailty, multimorbidity, and related conditions.
This Research Topic welcomes negative data as well.
Keywords:
Multimorbidity, Frailty, Older Adults, Vulnerable Populations, Nutritional Intervention, Body Composition
