Following the series of previously conducted symposia on the recent exciting developments on long axial field of view positron emission tomography, in 2024 we organise in Groningen the 3rd issue of “Total Body Positron Emission Tomography”, also known as TBPET 2024. In this issue, special emphasis is given on clinical applications covering all relevant areas including oncology, cardiology, infection and inflammation, neurology, multi-organ interaction, novel radiopharmaceuticals, new acquisition protocols for fast and ultra-low dose imaging as well as development of appropriate and affordable instrumentation. This proposed Research Topic will complement the conference and will extend the invitation for article submission to the entire community.
The research topic aims at providing a unique platform for addressing the role of total body positron emission tomography in clinical practice and clinical research. The topic intends to foster synergistic interactions between cutting-edge total body clinical practice, and the latest research and technical developments from image processing, artificial intelligence and instrumentation perspectives. Stakeholders from academia, medical institutions and organizations, regulatory agencies, and industry have an opportunity to explore the current bottlenecks that need to be addressed and provide strategic directions for expanding total body positron emission tomography and the range of opportunities in utilising the extended capabilities offered by this technology.
We invite original research papers or review contributions in the following areas of total body positron emission tomography:
• Oncology
• Infection and inflammation
• Cardiovascular imaging
• Neurology
• Multiorgan axes
• Kinetic analysis for total body PET imaging
• Novel radiopharmaceuticals
• Instrumentation and novel scanner design
• Data preprocessing including image reconstruction
• Data harmonization and standardization
Conflict of Interest disclosure: Topic Editor Charalampos Tsoumpas received financial support from the following Companies: Positrigo, Siemens, GE Healthcare. The other Topic Editors declare no competing interests with regard to the Research Topic subject.
Keywords:
Molecular Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, Medical Imaging, Total Body Positron Emission Tomography, Clinical Applications.
Important Note:
All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
